Music On Monday: White Christmas

As you must know if you live anywhere in the universe where any kind of media can reach you, Christmas is rapidly approaching. But it’s hard to tell in Japan. There are Christmas themed items in stores and I’ve seen two houses with some holiday lighting. But otherwise, it’s kind of just a non-issue. Which I get. When in Rome and all that, so I’m trying to forget our previous expat Christmases full of Sinterklaas in the Netherlands and oh so many German Christmas Markets and all the gorgeous snow in Norway.

But it’s hard.

I’m a non-Christian Christmas lover, always have been, and I’m craving some snowflakes and gaudy light displays and a continual loop of Christmas movies on TV. But none of that is in the cards this year so I’m making do! We (and by ‘we’ I mean that I am forcing it on Dave) are on a loop of Christmas carols from the iPod dock at home AND in the car because the music does set the mood. And while this version of White Christmas is not in any sense comparable to Bing Crosby’s classic because I love all things Bing and that whole Christmas album sounds like ‘Clark Household Childhood Christmas Volume 1’ (Nat King Cole is featured in volume 2)…I am really digging Buble and Shania doing their Canadian thang on this song.
